On Saturday 13 March 2010 members of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts – plus a good number of parents – took part in the Eiger North Face Challenge. This was a sponsored event with the Scout and Explorer Scout Section money going towards their Kandersteg fund. Of course we didn’t go to the real Eiger – we walked from Newsome Scout HQ, to the summit of Castle Hill – 18 times!
Two of the Leaders did the full 18 ascents, a total of 27 miles. Scouts and Explorer Scouts walked in pairs, 9 ascents each and Cubs walked in threes, 6 ascents each. Beavers did exceptionally well – some doing three ascents. It was a fantastic day – the sun was shining and it was great to see so many families taking part in the event.
